International students waiting for residence permit

To join autumn semester 2024 on-campus studies, you are required to be present at Haaga-Helia Campus on August 12th 2024 when Orientation Days begin, but no later than September 2nd 2024. After this, the next possibility to join classroom lessons is in spring semester 2025.

If you are still waiting for your student residence permit application’s decision after September 2nd 2024, you will start your studies online. Online studies will start by the end of August. You will receive further information about our comprehensive online courses in August 2024 via email.

Spring semester 2025

In case you are still waiting for your student residence permit application decision and cannot be present in Finland by 31st January 2025, you have the following two options:

1. You can choose to resign from your studies and apply for a tuition fee refund. By doing this, you will lose your study right and we will inform Finnish Immigration Services about your decision. A sum of EUR 1,500.00 will be deducted from your tuition fee payment when processing the refund. 
2. Your paid tuition fee for spring semester 2025 will be transferred to autumn semester 2025. You will be marked as a present student in our register for spring semester 2025. Please note that these semesters (autumn 2024 and spring 2025) are included in your study right time. Please note that you are not allowed to complete any study credits during spring semester 2025 at Haaga-Helia. According to Finnish law, new students must enrol as present during their first academic year. You will continue your studies in August 2025 if you receive your residence permit by then.

In case you receive a negative decision on your residence permit application, you can choose either to appeal for the Immigration Services decision or apply for a tuition fee refund. If you decide to apply for a tuition fee refund, you will lose your study right. A sum of EUR 1,500.00 will be deducted from your tuition fee payment when processing the refund. Please note that you are responsible for any additional service fees charged by the bank.

To join the autumn 2024 semester on-campus studies, we expect you to be at the Pasila campus in August when we organise the orientation evening as well as provide study guidance and IT support to begin your Master studies. The date of the orientation evening will be published later.

If you do not receive your student residence permit in time to join the orientation, you need to study the materials of Orientation Moodle page and connect with the senior lecturer, Kari Hiekkanen independently.
