Body

Registration for the autumn studies is approaching. In addition to the key competences and other courses required by your degree, please remember the full range of high-quality language and culture courses. Language courses provide good support for all expert studies in every major.

In particular, we would like to highlight:

  • Global Languages - all courses in German, French, Spanish, Chinese and Russian, and especially levels 3 and 4 (always with English as a supporting language), mostly offered as virtual implementations. If you want to include these important languages in your studies, please register now in May to ensure that we can offer as many courses as possible. Global language skills are proven to increase your value in the job market and give you a big advantage in study exchanges and/or internships abroad.
  • Swedish - Diskutera på svenska (CONTACT, Porvoo) introduces you to an important culture of conversation. Oral communication is practised in a very informal way. The course encourages you to discuss topics of interest in a friendly atmosphere.

  • English - Higher level English courses focus on deepening professional communication, negotiation and meeting skills. Prepare yourself for success in a global workspace and international business world! Advanced Professional English (CONTACT, Pasila & Porvoo), English for Academic Purposes (VIRTUAL INSTRUCTED) and Advanced Hospitality English (CONTACT, Haaga).

  • S2 - Fluency in Finnish is exactly the competence that opens the doors to Finnish working life. At a higher level, we would like to highlight the courses Let's speak Finnish (CONTACT, Pasila), Finnish for Work 1 (VIRTUAL INSTRUCTED) and Expert written communication (ONLINE). In autumn 2024, we will also experiment with a joint course of Finnish language and Entrepreneurship and Business skills ENT001HH1A-3164 (CONTACT EVENING, Pasila).

  • Network offerings - Ulysseus University offerings are a natural addition to our own degree offerings. We are also an active player in the national KiVANET network (NB! The KiVANET website address will change from 1 August. Updated links can always be found on the Language and culture studies at Haaga-Helia website.

You will find the courses with descriptions in the study guide, and the most comprehensive information on all language and culture studies can be found on our website (in Finnish and English, see above). Use the links to explore the courses and you will find the most comprehensive range of language and culture courses available at university level in Europe.

Russian language skills – Why now?

When the world around us is in turbulence, it is increasingly important to be able to understand, interpret and convey the right and valid information. Russian language is the one of the most spoken languages in Europe, and it is also the most spoken foreign language as a mother tongue in Finland. Proficiency in the Russian language opens doors to many opportunities, as Russian is widely used around the world, including the Baltic countries, Eastern Europe, and countries like Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan. It can also be an important tool in the rebuild of Ukraine.

Learning the Cyrillic alphabet is the first step on your journey to the countries where Russian is spoken, nor is it difficult. Here in Haaga-Helia you are able to unlock this hidden potential with the Russian language.
