SuoMa – Finnish-language Training Package for the Hospitality and Restaurant Industry (MaRa)

The goal of the SuoMa project is to strengthen the labour market position of people with poor Finnish language skills and non-typical employment contracts within the hospitality and restaurant industry.

The objective is achieved by teaching these adults the necessary Finnish language skills and basic competencies required in their field. This will be achieved through skill-focused training modules conducted in the Finnish language. In addition, upgrading of skills needed in the sector, such as customer service skills and fundamental knowledge of restaurant work, will be provided through tailor-made competence services.

The aim is to increase and update the language and other professional competencies of the target group in order to enable them to find permanent employment in the sector, including supervisory roles. This will also facilitate the availability of skilled workforce for businesses in the hospitality and restaurant sector.

Implementation of the training package

  • in the metropolitan area as on-site training
  • two time periods: spring 2024 and autumn 2024
  • duration of the training: 5 months
  • minimum of 60 participants
  • enhancement of Finnish language skills as well as hospitality and restaurant industry competencies through a 10–12 ECTS credit study module
